This Privacy Notice describes the privacy practices of MetLife Insurance SA/NV, an affiliate of MetLife, Inc. It tells you how we collect, use, disclose, and transfer personally identifiable information about our Customers.

Your privacy and the security of your personally identifiable information are important to us and we invite you to read this Privacy Notice carefully.

1. Terms Used in This Privacy Notice

In this Privacy Notice:

• MetLife, Inc. and all of its affiliates worldwide are referred to as the “MetLife Group”.
• We use the term “Customers” to refer to both our customers and any other applicants for our products and services.
• We use the term “you” to refer to the Customer who is reading this Privacy Notice.
• We use any of the terms “we”,“us”, and “our” to refer to MetLife Insurance SA/NV, with its registered office at Pleinlaan 11 Boulevard de la Plaine BRUSSELS (IXELLES/ELSENE), the data controller.
• We use the term “Customer Data” to refer to personally identifiable information about you.
• We use the term “Belgium” to refer to the Kingdom of Belgium.
• We use the term "Law" to refer generally to the laws of Belgium and to any law of another jurisdiction that may apply.
• We use the term "Privacy Law” to refer specifically to the Belgian Law of December 8, 1992 on the protection of privacy and its various implementing regulations and rulings.

2. Data Collection

We may collect Customer Data in connection with an application or transaction with you, including your name, address, and contact information. The types of Customer Data that we collect will depend on the product or service you apply for or receive, and may include information about your finances, employment, health, or credit history. We usually seek such Customer Data directly from you. You may choose not to provide the requested information, but we may be unable or unwilling to provide the product or service you request. In some instances, where the Law permits, we may also obtain Customer Data from employers, consumer reporting agencies, health or medical professionals, and other third parties.

3. Customer Data Use and Disclosure

 We may use Customer Data to help us serve you better and only as far as is permitted or required by Law. In particular, we may use Customer Data, and disclose it to others, in order to:

• Help us evaluate your request for a product or service
• Help us process claims and other transactions
• Confirm or correct Customer Data
• Process information for us
• Help us run our business and compliance programs
• Audit our business
• Perform research for us

There may be other reasons to use or disclose Customer Data, such as:

• Doing what a local or foreign court or government agency requires us to do, such as complying with a search warrant, or acting as otherwise required or permitted by Law;
• Disclosing Customer Data to another company if we are or may be selling, assigning, or otherwise transferring all or any part of our business or merging with another company;
• Giving Customer Data to the government so that it can decide whether you may get benefits that it will have to pay for; and
• Giving Customer Data to someone who has a legal interest in your insurance, such as someone who lent you money and holds a lien on your policy.

Where the Law allows it, we may share Customer Data with affiliates within the MetLife Group or with selected third parties (e.g., other financial services companies, marketing companies) to enable them to market their or other selected third parties’ products and services to you. Before we share such Customer Data, we will have offered you the opportunity to choose whether or not to have Customer Data used in this way. You also have the right to object, free of charge and at any time, to the processing of Customer Data for marketing purposes by contacting us at the contact points mentioned at the end of this Privacy Notice.

The persons and companies to whom we may disclose Customer Data for any of the above reasons may be located in Belgium or in other countries. These other countries might not have laws that provide the same level of data protection as the Privacy Law. However, those persons or companies must agree to protect any Customer Data we give them from improper use and disclosure. We will secure appropriate contractual guarantees from such persons or companies service providers to ensure equivalent level of protection to Customer Data, as required by the Privacy Law.

We will use Customer Data relating to your health only in order to evaluate your request for a specific product or service and to administer the policy that may be issued to you (including the handling of claims). The categories of the persons that may have access to such Customer Data include our personnel or personnel within the MetLife Group designated to perform one or more of the tasks mentioned above and, if applicable, other third parties whose intervention is warranted in the context of the performance of the tasks mentioned above, pursuant to Article 7 of the Privacy Law.

4. Access and Review

We will make Customer Data available to you for review pursuant to a simple request from you. If you tell us that the Customer Data is incorrect or is used inappropriately, we will correct, update, or delete Customer Data as appropriate. For information about how to get access to Customer Data, please refer to the contact points mentioned at the end of this Privacy Notice. You may also consult the Public Register kept by the Belgian Privacy Commission in connection with automated processing of personal data.

5. Data Security

We maintain reasonable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to protect the security and confidentiality of Customer Data.
